Who are the Missions that All Saints Trull Supports?
We have recently seen a big change in the way that All Saints Trull supports our various missions. By “pledging” we are able to predict more accurately our resources and thus enable the funding to the various missions to be more secure. Those that are currently supported reflect a balance of evangelistic and practical help, with both overseas and local missions. The targeting of a smaller number has also made it possible to increase the support to each, thereby making a real difference. Some no doubt will wish to continue to support their own favourites independently which we would wholeheartedly encourage. Christian missions both at home and overseas need our support and there is no right or wrong way of giving. If you would like to support the All Saints Missions, contact David Brooks-Daw c/o the church office on 01823 330812.
The De Roemers (Belgian Evangelical Mission)
The BEM’s vision is to reach everyone in Belgium with the Gospel by evangelising every generation and people group, planting churches in every city and town and inspiring the evangelical community. All Saints Trull has for some years now been helping to support Charles and Frances De Roemer and their family, located in the town of Binche. For more information contact Paul Dadson.
The Besom Taunton
The Besom provides a wide variety of opportunities for people to reach out into the community and help others in practical ways, either by giving their time, such as in helping to paint the homes of single parents and vulnerable families living in run-down housing, or by providing good quality items that are no longer required. A small team from Trull were able to help a local family in April 2010 by painting their front room. Need to know more? Speak to Amanda Adams or Charmian Roberts.
The Open Door Taunton
The Open Door was established in July 1996 in response to the increasing number of homeless people in Taunton. Situated close to the town centre, its new and highly valued day centre in Mary Street provides a combination of personal support, development and care facilities. Judy Hawkes is the All Saints contact.
Isubilo
Zambia has the highest proportion of AIDS orphans in the world. Every day 65 people die of AIDS in Ndola, life expectancy is 34 years. Isubilo, based near Ndola, the third largest city in Zambia, works to make a difference in the local community by showing God’s love and practically serving those affected by HIV/AIDS, including the sick, orphans and widows. The current programme includes home-based care, medical and dental centres, hospice care and family support for orphans. For information contact the Mission Team.
The Bible Society
The Bible Society exists because millions lack the Bible in a language they can understand, in a form they can use or at a price they can afford. More than 4,400 languages still wait for even one book of the Bible. Though a billion people can’t read, only 3 per cent have the Bible in audio. Every 5 seconds someone goes blind, but the complete Braille Bible exists in only 35 languages. In our own country the Bible is no longer a point of reference for everyday life and Christians often lack the confidence to apply the Bible’s message in a society that increasingly sees it as irrelevant. All Saints Trull has had a particular interest in the work of the Society in Zimbabwe. Permission has been given by the authorities for bibles to be distributed to all those soldiers in the Zimbabwe Defence Forces who request a bible and undertake a commitment to read it. The Society is working hard to raise funds for another 25,000 copies. Peter Chew is the mission contact.
